What is APEX?

APEX is a free organizational assessment developed by Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Inc. with consultation from BTW informing change. It is a tool that Compassionate Ministry Centers (CMCs) can use to identify organizational strengths and weaknesses. The purpose is to raise awareness of areas of improvement within nonprofits and use that knowledge to facilitate change and growth. The ultimate goal is empowering CMCs to eradicate poverty and expand the kingdom of God.

Why should we take the APEX assessment?

An organizational assessment allows you to take a step back from the day to day activities of your nonprofit and scan the big picture. A house is only as strong as its foundation. While each nonprofit is different, they all share several foundational needs particular to their status as social service agencies: an effective board of directors, sound finance, focused programs, and a plan for the future. APEX is free, and provides a rubric for organizational excellence. Completing the assessment will not solve your problems, but with hard work you can use the knowledge gleaned from it to rectify those areas that prevent you from fulfilling your mission.

OK, so what is the process?

We suggest that you take the assessment with your board. It is not long (you could complete it in less than 45 minutes by yourself), but the questions require honest, perhaps painful appraisal from a variety of perspectives. This is best done jointly by the board or senior leadership team.

Once you complete the assessment, it is sent electronically to us to be processed. We will then send you the results and begin interacting with your organization to progress on some of the weak areas that the assessment has highlighted.
